Pictures of Bello Seacape Drainage Ditch
Following a series of pictures showing work completed on the Bello-Seacape Drainage ditch and easement that
runs between Ahab Drive and Sunset Way. Water runoff from Ahab Drive goes down a culvert at the top of the pedestrian easement just east of
17 Ahab and goes down a buried culvert, emptying into the ditch about halfway down the path.
Picture of start of Bello-Seacape Drainage Ditch before work started. Water comes down through Culvert
from Ahab Drive, where it empties into ditch running westward halfway down between Ahab and Sunset.

Green material is a Polypropylene fiber matrix P550, manufactured by
North American Green. The P550 mat is designed to provide both long-term, pre-vegetated erosion protection and permanent turf reinforcement.

Example of channel after revegetation grows back through matting
Ditch was reshaped to form wide "V" shape for greater carrying capacity,
and lined with matting. Grass seeds were placed beneath matting for future re-seeding.
Ditch continues on below 21 Ahab.
Over time, vegetation will grow through the matting and provide additional erosion control.
Work stops at property boundary between 21 and 25 Ahab.
Existing drainage ditch below 25 Ahab.
All construction done on this portion of the ditch thus far was by owners of 25 Ahab as part of their construction project. Coordination with CSD on this portion of the drainage ditch in progress.
Picture shows area where old culvert below 33 Ahab was removed by the CSD.
Removal of undersized culvert allows unimpeded flow of water down the gentle slope of this portion of the drainage ditch.
New 30" culvert visible further down the ditch.
Prior to removal, sediment over the years had partially blocked water from flowing into the culvert.
Furthermore, because the grade is relatively gentle and the culvert was round (not elliptical) water would back up and cascade down the hill.
Fiber matting starts again beneath 33 Ahab.
New 30" culvert installed at final leg of ditch where slope increases dramatically.
New culvert is approximately 30 feet long.

Another view of new culvert. Larger size, shorter length, and greater
slope will make for easier maintenance. Previous culvert that was removed was about 140 feet long and was difficult to maintain.
Installation of turf mat stopped at property boundary between 33 Ahab
and 25 Ahab. Further work pending coordination with construction work in progress at 25 Ahab.
New 30" culvert empties out into one of the "sources" of Cove Lane Creek.
